AMMA UNAVAGAMS - 24 NEW FOOD OUTLETS OPENED IN CHENNAI


On the occasion of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s 65th Birthday, 24 more food outlets were opened in Chennai on Sunday 24th February 2013.


The new ‘Amma Unavagams’ are located at Kaliamma Koil Street in Karapakkam, Velachery-Tambaram Main Road near Pallikaranai compost, Manali Express Road in Thyagi Satyamoorthy Nagar, Perumal Koil Street in Elanthanur, Nehru Street in Ponniammanmedu, New Vinobha Nagar, Mangammal Thottam in New Washermanpet, Anna Pillai Street, Egmore Railway Station’s entrance, Paper Mills Road in Sembium, Valluvan Street in Otteri, Mariamman Koil Street in Ambattur, Mangalapuram in Chetpet, MGR 3rd Street in MMDA Colony, Muthiah Street in Royapettah, Ayyappan Nagar Main Road in Koyambedu, Kamaraj Colony Main Road in Kodambakkam, Madha Koil Street in Nerkunram, Raja Street in Alandur, Balakrishnapuram Main Road in Adambakkam, Thruvenkatan Street in Adyar, 1st Avenue in Besant Nagar, MGR Nagar on Valachery-Taramani Road,  Division Office in Palavakkam.

 

Chennai to Bangalore - Double Decker AC Train

A double-decker coach can carry 128 passengers in comparison to 78 in a Shatabdi chair car,
increasing the capacity by about 70 percent. With lower weight per commuter,
the coaches are more energy efficient

South India’s first AC Double Decker train successfully completed its trial run
from Chennai to Bangalore on Sunday.

Southers Railways will conduct another round of inspection before formally launching the service.



Reducing travel time from Bangalore to Chennai by nearly three hours will be possible,
as the double-decker express coaches are designed and built to run at 150 km per hour
on upgraded tracks with no stoppages, a senior South Western Railway (SWR) official told.


Once the service starts, the train will leave Chennai at 7.25 a.m. and
reach Bangalore city at 1.20 p.m.It will leave Bangalore at 2.40 p.m.
and reach Chennai at 8.40 p.m.


 

Of the seven direct express/mail trains operated between the two cities, two are Shatabdis on six days a week, which run at 110 kmph, and two are inter-city trains that take over six hours due to their many halts.

Double Decker Train Trial on Tomorrow

 

An Air-conditioned Chennai-Bangalore-Chennai Double-Decker Train, expected to begin operation in a few months, The trial run is likely to be held on Sunday. The coaches, in a combination of red and yellow, have reached the Basin Bridge train care centre. 

Each of the 12 coaches can seat 120 and will be 4,366mm tall against the 3,950mm height of a Shatabdi Express coach. Staircases will connect the two floors in each coach that is estimated to cost about 2.5 crore. Designed and developed at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, the train can reach a maximum speed of 160 km per hour and cover the 362 km to Bangalore in six hours. The coaches have automatic doors, eight emergency windows and fire extinguishers. A mini-pantry equipped with water cooler and facilities to make tea, cold drinks, soup and ice-creams for passengers will be available in every coach.
